The “Climate Friendly Erzurum: Erzurum Province Carbon Management and Sustainable Energy Action Plan Preliminary Study” was carried out by GTE and completed in 2014, with the financial support of the Northeast Anatolian Development Agency and the leadership of Atatürk University Environmental Problems Research Center. The aim of the project is to minimize the amount of use of fuels such as coal, which contributes the most to air pollution in Erzurum, to expand the use of cleaner energy sources such as natural gas in the current situation, and to be a guide for renewable energy investments in the long term.
Within the scope of the project, the carbon footprint of Erzurum Province was calculated and reported according to international standards and guidelines. In addition, the preliminary study of the Emission Reduction Action Plan and Sustainable Energy Action Plan requested from the member cities by the European Covenant of Mayors has been prepared with the aim of being a guide for the city.
